Study of Happiness Expands

Posted on April 8, 2007 in Happiness/Joy, Positive Psychology by Michael.

Time.com has a good article about the study of happiness. The world’s first Ph.D program on positive psychology begins this fall at the Claremont Graduate University in Claremont, CA. Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, author of Flow: the Psychology of Optimal Experience, will be leading the program.

According to Wikipedia, Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi is a leading researcher in the areas of happiness, creativity, subjective well-being and fun. The field of positive psychology is exploding across the country. The University of Pennsylvania has a Positive Psychology Center. The Michigan Ross School of Business has formed the Center for Positive Organizational Scholarship.

We live in exciting times where the study of dynamic and subjective states of being is becoming increasingly popular. I look forward to how these new programs can help us become happier in our everyday lives.

  2. I remembered reading this the other day as I was watching an Opra show yesterday. A Dr. Robert Holden, founder of Happiness Project, was on the show. He says we are created happy and happiness is in our constitution.
