Priniciples We Live By

The principles we live by, in business and in social life, are the most important part of happiness. We need to be careful, upon achieving happiness, not to lose the virtues which have produced it. – Harry Harrison

Harry Harrison’s quote really got me thinking about moving from a place of non-happiness to a happier place. I do believe that working on the principles that we live by is an important factor in moving towards happiness. I think that if you have cultivated principles that you believe in and can live by that it will be very difficult to lose them.

I do believe that achieving happiness is not the end all destination. It’s not something you get to and then stop. Getting to happiness really is a continual process of adjustment; always choosing your thoughts and actions to keep you direction on the road of happiness.

As our desires, hopes and dreams change, so will the specifics things that will make us the happiest. So, it’s important to be flexible and adaptable. If a principle we have been living by for many years suddenly becomes something that makes us unhappy, it’s time for a change. The more you take time to adjust and not stay in “thinking ruts”, the better you will become at staying at a level of happiness that fulfills your being.

Have a great day!

Michael
