Joys of Cooking

Posted on December 5, 2007 in Friends, Happiness/Joy by Michael.

I haven’t been cooking very much lately as I’ve been traveling so much. But, I really enjoy cooking. It’s relaxing, rewarding and a lot of fun. So, tonight I decided to cook for Erica. Funny thing is that this is the first time I have cooked for her. I did make the turkey for Thanksgiving but I didn’t do the other dishes. Even though we eat together a lot, I had only done parts up until tonight. I made something simple; tilapia with Cajun spices and some string beans sautéed with garlic in olive oil.

I always attempt to practice three things when I’m cooking.

  • I always try to enjoy what I’m doing and have fun.
  • I really focus on what I’m doing and don’t get distracted by other things happening around me.
  • Don’t eat if you are angry.

I firmly believe that these three simple techniques make for a better meal. For me cooking is about focusing in the moment and enjoying the simple things in life. Rebekah talks about the miracles in our lives in her post, Chanukah - Festival of Lights. It’s not about the life changing miracles but about the small ones, the ones that happen every day; laughter, dinner with a friend, a sunset or a hug from a loved one.

Cooking for someone is more than preparing good food. It’s about special moments. It’s about sharing and giving. It’s about what makes the world go around.

Think about these points the next time you are cooking.

Have a great day!

Michael
